Outsourcing – the practice of using outside firms to handle work normally performed within a company – is not a new concept – in fact it has become an increasingly popular business practice over the years.
Small companies routinely outsource their payroll processing, accounting, distribution and many other important functions – usually because they do not have the necessary expertise or manpower to undertake these tasks in-house.
Ever increasing numbers of larger organisations are also turning to outsourcing to cut costs and increase efficiency, recruiting specialist companies to handle services such as Human Resources, IT or Training on their behalf.
Today, outsourcing is undoubtedly big business – indeed, entire industries have evolved to serve organisations’ outsourcing needs – and a large number of successful companies, offering outsourced services, have been established in the past decade.
One such company is Aberdeen-based Sales Evolution, which provides sales and marketing services to help organisations achieve sustainable increases in sales revenue and improve their marketing effectiveness.
One area the company, which was set-up in 2003 and is based in Bridge House, on Riverside Drive, has particular expertise in, is sales outsourcing.
Sales Evolution director, Mark Gillanders, explains: “Sales outsourcing is the transfer or development of sales resources, including all overhead expenses, such as recruiting, payroll, commissions, training and managment responsibilities, to an outside organisation.
“For many companies, sales is not a core competency, and outsourcing this function to specialists, like ourselves, enables businesses to take their growth to the next level. Through outsourcing, businesses have the ability to utilise the knowledge and skills of other organisations.”
Sales Evolution’s clients have access to experienced staff who are equipped with excellent sales, customer relations and account management skills.
Mark says that by developing achievable sales plans, recruiting highly qualified sales professionals and managing them to meet their client’s revenue goals, Sales Evolution can ensure that companies enjoy the benefits associated with outsourcing their sales function – namely, increased productivity, reduced costs and accelerated growth.
The company was also recently contracted to establish a sales presence in Aberdeen for Norwegian-based company, ProPure AS, which specialises in providing produced water solutions to the international oil & gas and marine industries.
Mark says that outsourcing sales is now an increasing trend among firms looking to establish an office within a foreign marketplace, with companies recognising the benefits of using a local organisation for their sales function.
He said: “ProPure AS was keen to establish a sales presence in the North-east, specifically to target the oil & gas market in Aberdeen. Our outsourced sales service enabled them to do this smoothly and efficiently – allowing them to quickly secure properly qualified prospects which they could turn into sales.
“Their salesperson – who we recruited and put in place – has local management and an office space to work from, greatly reducing the costs and risk to ProPure AS and allowing them to establish a route to market far quicker than setting up from scratch would have, and greatly increasing their chances of success in this extremely competitive marketplace.
“The world is becoming a smaller place every year, with advancements in technology and the increasing ease of travel, and I believe that as companies look to strengthen their international reach and establish a presence across the globe, the outsourcing of sales in foreign countries will become an ever-more popular business practice.”
Sales Evolution currently works with a wide range of companies in a variety of industry sectors, including oil & gas, marine, IT, engineering and professional services.
